Nov. 13, 2002
UCLA head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today the signing of four student-athletes to a national letter-of-intent. The list includes Noelle Quinn of Bishop Montgomery High School (Torrance, CA), forward Amanda Livingston of Troy (Fullerton, CA) High School, center Consuelo Lezcano of Marathon, FL High School and guard Shaina Zaidi from Marlborough High in Los Angeles. Each will enter UCLA in the fall of 2003 as a freshman and become a member of the 2003-2004 Bruin team.
Quinn, a 6-0 guard, is regarded by several publications as one of the top ten prep players in the country. She averaged 21.9 points, 11.6 boards, 3.8 steals and 2.3 blocks last season while being named the California State Player of the Year for Division III. Quinn, who has helped lead her team to three consecutive CIF Division III state championships, was chosen the Division III-A CIF Southern Section Player of the Year as a junior. She also played on the USA Junior Development team and was considered one of the top prospects at the girls Nike and Adidas Camps the past two summers. She is ranked as the No. 1 two-guard in the country in the class of 2003 by All-Star Girls Report and as the number eight recruit in the nation by Student Sports.
Livingston, a 6-1 forward, averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds a game as a junior last season at Troy High School. She was a first-team All-CIF II-AA and LA Times All-Orange County selection last season and participated in the Nike Camp last summer. Livingston led her team to a 29-4 record and to the final of the Southern Section Division 2-A. She was named an honorable mention Street & Smith's All-American.
Lezcano, a 6-4 center, is considered one of the top five prep players in the state of Florida. She averaged 21 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks a game as a junior at Marathon High School and is ranked amongst the top-30 post players in the country by All-Star Girls Report.
Zaidi, a 5-8 point-guard, averaged 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Marlborough High School last season. She earned all-league honors and led her team into the CIF playoffs last season. Last season, Zaidi was named first-team Division IV-AA All-CIF Southern Section. She also was invited to the Adidas All-Star camp this past summer.
'This is a group which brings a great deal of talent and promise,' said Olivier. 'We competed with many of the other top programs across the country and came out on top. Now we have put together two straight top-level recruiting classes, which makes me very excited about the future of UCLA basketball. Each of these players will add to that excitement.'
