Nov. 14, 2002
Los Angeles, Calif. - Joshua Wooding, one of the top junior golfers in the nation and a 2002 AJGA All-American, has signed a letter of intent with USC, Director of Golf Kurt Schuette announced today.
Wooding, a senior at Riverside (Calif.) Poly High, is ranked 16th among junior golfers by Golfweek and was the 2002 CIF Southern Section Champion. He was sixth at the 2002 World Junior Championships and was in the final 16 of the 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur. He was also a qualifier for the 2002 U.S. Amateur.
Said Schuette: 'We're extremely excited to have Joshua joining our Trojan golf team next year, not only for his golfing ability, but because we feel that he will complement and add to our already competitive team. He is an exceptional fit for USC. I think he will greatly enhance our chances of contending for national championships in the future.'
Wooding averaged 72.47 in 17 stroke play rounds this summer, including a low round of 66. USC coach Ted Gleason also prepped at Poly High in Riverside.
