TUCSON, Ariz. - The 16-th ranked Arizona Wildcats defeated the Oregon volleyball team 30-20, 30-26, 30-22, in front of 1,359 fans at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz., Friday night and improved to 14-9 overall, 9-6 Pacific-10 Conference while Oregon fell to 11-17, 1-14.
Arizona freshman Bre Ladd led all players with 17 kills and also had a match-high .640 hitting percentage. Oregon senior Lindsay Closs led the way for the Ducks, finishing with 10 kills and a .471 clip. Sophomore Lauren Westendorf continued to her strong play, adding eight kills and five blocks for Oregon.
'One thing that we had been doing was getting a balanced offensive attack,' Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. 'We struggled with that a little tonight, but the thing I liked is that we still put ourselves in a good position to win games two and three.'
Freshman outside hitter Dariam Acevedo had seven kills and nine digs while junior Lindsay Murphy led Oregon defensively with 14 digs. Arizona held the advantage in kills (55-32) digs (40-34) and blocks (11-8).
