Bruins Fall to Second-Ranked Women of Troy

WESTWOOD - The Bruins fought hard, but were unable to push the second-ranked USC women's volleyball team past the minimum three games, as the Women of Troy won 30-24, 30-21, 30-23 in a Lexus Gauntlet matchup. Cira Wright had match-highs of 12 kills and eight blocks to lead the Bruins in the match. With the loss, UCLA falls to 15-12 (8-8 Pac-10), while USC improves to 22-1 (15-1). In the opening game of the match, the Bruins kept it close, holding a lead as late as 12-11, and stayed within one point as late as 24-23 before the Women of Troy scored on six of the final seven rallies to win 30-24. Game two was not as close, as USC took advantage of UCLA's .095 attack percentage in the game en route to a 30-21 win, taking a 2-0 lead to the locker rooms at the break.

UCLA led game three as late as 23-22, but got stuck on that number, falling 30-23 in the third and final game of the match.

Cira Wright led all players with 12 kills and eight blocks (two solo, six assists) to go along with a .417 attack percentage. She was the only Bruin to record double-figure kills, and led all players with 17 points scored in the match. Chrissie Zartman led all players in digs with 19. USC had three players with double-figure kills, led by Alicia Robinson with 12 and Emily Adams and April Ross with 10 apiece.

UCLA returns to action next week, closing out its Pauley Pavilion schedule with a Thursday match against Arizona State and a Friday match against Arizona. Both matches are scheduled for 7 pm starts, and will be broadcast live on
