Bruin Women place third at NCAA West Regional Cross Country Qualifiers

Stanford, CA - At the NCAA West Regional Qualifiers, held at the Stanford Golf Course, the Bruin women placed third (82 points). Both Stanford's men's and women's teams finished first, earning automatic team bids to the NCAA Championships, held Monday, November 25, in Terre Haute, IN.

Individually, junior Lena Nilsson (Vallentuna, SWE/Vallentuna Gymnasium) was the top Bruin finisher of the day, placing second overall, in 20:45. Nilsson broke up a Stanford sweep of the top four and automatically qualified, as an individual, for the NCAA Championships.

The Bruin women placed third (82 points) today led by Nilsson's performance. Freshman Jenna Timinsky (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) also finished in the top-10, placing ninth in 21:46.

Sophomore Carmen Winant (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Friends) was 19th (22:11). Sophomores Lori Mann (Coto de Caza, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) and Alejandra Barrientos (Felton, CA/San Lorenzo Valley HS) were 27th and 28th, respectively, finishing in 22:23 and 22:25. Junior Valerie Flores (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro HS) was 29th (22:26). Freshman Allison Hall (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo HS) was 52nd (23:03).

With today's finish, the Bruins are in contention for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. At-large bids will be announced the week of November 18th.

NCAA Championships
The 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held Monday, November 25, in Terre Haute, IN. Team and individual at-large bids will be announced the week of November 18th.
