150 G. A. Tickets for UO Basketball Opener to go on Sale Wednesday
Nov. 19, 2002
EUGENE, Ore. - Approximately 150 general admission tickets for the Oregon men's basketball team's season opener Sunday versus Grambling State will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Oregon Athletic Ticket Office, located in the Len Casanova Center.
There will also be 150 general admission tickets for the Monday's championship round of the John Thompson Foundation Challenge placed on sale Wednesday. G.A. tickets are $11 for adults and $7 for youths and seniors.
The defending Pac-10 champion Ducks open the 2002-03 campaign with a 16-game McArthur Court winning streak heading into the two-game JTF Challenge. Cal State Northridge and Jacksonville are in the other half of the bracket.
Aside from any reserved seats returned by the three visiting teams, which will also be placed on sale as early as tomorrow, plus about 100 obstructed view seast, Oregon is looking at potentially its first non-conference regular season sellout in nearly 19 years.
The last time during the regular season that Mac Court was sold out for a non-conference game was Jan. 11, 1984, when a crowd of 10,103 -- four over McArthur Court's capacity at the time -- watched Oregon lose to Notre Dame 66-54. The Ducks last sold out a non-conference game March 15, 1999, when Oregon defeated Wyoming 93-72 in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Sellout or not, Sunday's crowd is expected to be the largest for a regular season non-conference home game since 9,954 (70 short of a sellout) saw the Ducks defeat Fresno State 87-75 on Dec. 7, 1996. The previous high for a regular season non-conference game since then was the 8,561 who came out for the 75th anniversary of Mac Court Jan. 15, 2002, against Willamette.
