UCLA Blows Out Sacramento State, 106-43

Honolulu, HI - The UCLA women's basketball team won its first game of the season in big fashion, blowing out Sacramento State, 106-43, at the Waikiki Marriott Resort Classic. The margin of victory (+63) was UCLA's greatest since defeating UC Santa Barbara by the same margin, 94-31, on Dec. 15, 1984. Freshman guard Nikki Blue (Bakersfield, CA/West HS) was one assist short of a triple-double, scoring 24 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and dishing nine assists.
The Bruins (1-1) stormed out to a 12-3 lead and were never challenged, taking a 53-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. UCLA shot 48.3% from the field in the contest and held the Hornets to 18.3% shooting. The Bruins also forced 21 turnovers (17 steals) while only committing 10.
Blue led all players with 24 points. In limited action (18 minutes), senior guard Michelle Greco (LaCrescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS) scored 19 points on 7-13 shooting and had four steals. Freshman guard Lisa Willis (Long Beach, CA/Narbonne HS) contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while classmate Julia Pitts (Carson, CA/North Torrance HS) added 12 points and nine boards. Danielle Iceman led Sac State (0-1) with 16 points.
The Bruins will next travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Tournament. UCLA will face Northwestern State on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1:30 pm.
