Terrell Suggs Named Football Writers Association All-American

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State's junior defensive end Terrell Suggs was named to the Football Writers Association All-America team it was announced today. The honor comes after a superb regular season that saw Suggs set the NCAA record for sacks (22), finish the season with the most tackles for loss in the nation (29.5) and tie for the most forced fumbles (6) in the Pac-10. He was also honored as the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all Pac-10 selection.

Suggs now holds ASU records for single season sacks, career sacks (42), single-season tackles for loss (29.5), and career tackles for loss (63.5). A finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award, the Rotary Lombardi Award, and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Suggs had two games in the 2002 with four or more sacks and has totaled 12 career multi-sack games. In thirteen games this year, he earned a Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week honor, a Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor, and cnnsi.com Midseason All-American acclaim. Suggs has led the Sun Devils in sacks and tackles for loss in each of his three seasons in Tempe.

The FWAA has named an All-America team every year since 1944, and this year's team will be honored with a banquet on January 24, in Orlando, Fla. Ohio State and Iowa had three players each named to the team and the Big Ten had nine honorees overall. The Pac-10 had the second-most players on the team with five.
