Dec. 3, 2002
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford women's gymnastics is excited to announce that Stacy Sprando has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Stanford University. Sprando (Metro Gymnastics / Portland, OR) is one of the top gymnasts in the nation. A former National Elite competitor, Stacy dominated the level 10 field in 2002.
Winning bars, beam, floor and the All-Around at the 2002 Regionals, Stacy demonstrated her outstanding abilities on every event. She also finished 3rd on beam and 6th on floor at the 2002 Junior Olympic Nationals. Sprando will be an excellent addition to a strong Stanford squad.
'We are extremely excited about what Stacy brings to our program,' said head coach Kristen Smyth. 'She is a beautiful athlete to watch and has a unique combination of power and artistry. Stacy's strengths are bars and beam where she will have an immediate impact. She is also a strong tumbler and elegant dancer so look for her to contribute on the floor as well. Stacy has a tremendous amount of talent and an incredible drive to succeed. Academically, she is among the top high school students in the country and is a perfect fit for Stanford University.'
