USC Falls To UCSB, 69-53

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Branduinn Fullove scored 23 points to lead UCSanta Barbara to a 69-53 win Tuesday night over Southern California, theirfirst win ever against the Trojans.

The Gauchos (3-2) had lost 11 straight to the Trojans (2-2) and hadn'tbeaten a Pac-10 team in 13 years.

UCSB trailed 30-28 at halftime, but made 6-of-10 3-pointers in the secondhalf, while holding USC to 24.2 percent shooting.

Fullove made all four of his 3-point attempts and 8-of-12 shots overall. TheGauchos' Mark Hull added 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, grabbednine rebounds and had six assists while scoring 10 of his 17 points in thesecond half. Teammate Nick Jones added a pair of 3-pointers on his way toscoring 15 points.

Roydell Smiley made four 3-pointers and scored 14 of his team-high 16 pointsin the first 17 minutes to give USC a 28-23 lead. The Gauchos, however, shuthim out from 3-point range the rest of the way.

Fullove, Hull and Jones all made 3-pointers in a span of 1:46 to put UCSBahead for good, 39-35, with 16:12 left.

Desmon Farmer had 12 points for USC, including back-to-back baskets whichdrew the Trojans to within seven points, 54-47, with 7:16 remaining. TheTrojans, however, didn't make another basket until the final buzzer.

The Gauchos shot 45.3 percent, including 9-of-19 from the 3-point line, andgained more rebounds than USC, 41-33.
