Women's Tennis Sweeps Hawai'i 7-0

Lahaina, Maui - The top-ranked Stanford women's tennis team concluded its fall season with a 7-0 shutout against the University of Hawai'i on Friday at the Royal Lahaina Resort. The Cardinal overmatched the Rainbow Wahine, winning each of the six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.
Freshman Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA) played the No. 1 singles position for Stanford, gaining a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hawai'i's Lauren Fitzgerald. Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) and Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK) each recorded 6-1, 6-0 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) defeated Polina Kravets 6-3, 6-0, while teammate Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position. Sophomore Kara Guzman (Burr Ridge, IL) rounded out the singles competition with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Justine Boutet at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, Barnikow and Burdette cruised to an 8-0 win over Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor in the top spot. Liu and Barnes teamed up for an 8-5 win over Kravets and Mio Fukushima and freshmen Joanna Kao (Fullerton, CA) and Jessica Leck (Los Angeles, CA) gained a 8-3 victory in the third doubles position.
The Stanford Cardinal will travel to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the Pac-10 Indoor Championships (Jan. 17-19) to begin its spring slate.
