Lombardo, Billingsley Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA women's soccer players Sarah Lombardo and Kendal Billingsley were honored by the Pac-10 Wednesday as the conference released its list of All-Academic selections. Lombardo (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) was named to the first team while Billingsley (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) was an honorable mention selection.

Lombardo, a sophomore goalkeeper, played in all 22 matches for the Bruins in 2002, starting 20. She finished the year with a goals against average of 0.56 after giving up just 12 goals all season. She also ranks second in the Pac-10 in shutouts with nine.

Billingsley, a sophomore defender, played in all 22 matches, starting 14. She was instrumental in helping the Bruin defense post 12 shutouts. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament against USC, she scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime. She ended up finishing the season with eight points on three goals (two game winners) and two assists.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
