Dec. 4, 2002
EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon women's basketball senior guard Shaquala Williams has been suspended indefinitely from the team because of disciplinary reasons, coach Bev Smith announced Wednesday.
Williams issued the following statement:
'I respect coach Smith's decision, although I'm very saddened by it. I apologize if I have disappointed my teammates, my coaches, my family, or the University in any way. I will do anything it takes to be a member of this team again.
'I've worked really hard to get where I am. I hope some bad decisions I've made don't compromise all the time and effort that others have invested in me. If given the opportunity to return, I'm going to do everything I can to try to make this team the best it can be.'
A four-year starter and two-time All-American, Williams has averaged 10.9 points, 1.0 assists and 0.8 rebounds per game this season for the Ducks.
