Lauren Fendrick Named First-Team Verizon Academic All-America

UCLA senior outside hitter Lauren Fendrick has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America First Team, it was announced today. Fendrick is the first Bruin women's volleyball player to earn first-team notice since Julie Bremner was chosen in 1993. Fendrick holds a 3.91 GPA with a double major in cognitive science and communications.

Fendrick joins Britten Follett (Southern Illinois, 4.00, Radio and Television), Karia Kucerkova (American, 3.98, Business Administration), Laura Pliakowski (Nebraska, 3.95, Marketing), Jennifer Pritchard (Winthrop, 4.00, Biology) and Libby Windell (Arkansas, 3.96, Microbiology) as the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America first team. All six student-athletes are seniors.

The 2002 Verizon Academic All-America team includes a first, second and third team, and includes 21 student-athletes (six first-team, seven second-team, eight third-team). Kucerkova is the Verizon Academic All-American of the Year.
