USC To Honor 1983 and 1984 Women's Basketball NCAA Champions
Dec. 5, 2002
LOS ANGELES -- USC women's basketball will honor members of its 1983 and 1984 NCAA Championship teams - including former players Cheryl Miller, Cynthia Cooper, Pam and Paula McGee, Rhonda Windham and former head coach Linda Sharp - during a pregame luncheon and halftime presentation at the USC-Tennessee game on Saturday, Dec. 14.
In one of the best women's basketball match-ups to hit Southern California in recent years, the game will fittingly be played at the legendary Forum in Inglewood.
Between them, these two programs have won eight national championships - USC owns two (1983, 1984) and Tennessee claims six (1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998). Both teams enter the 2003 season ranked among the Top 25 in preseason polls.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of USC's first women's basketball national title (1983), players from both championship squads have been invited to join the Dec. 14 celebration. Confirmed guests include: the McGee sisters, Miller, Cooper, Windham, Sharp, Tracy (Longo) Rath, Yolanda Fletcher, Timi (Pitzer) Pikard, Melissa Ward, Jamaiia Bond, Amy (Alkek) Crain, Kathy Doyle, Juliette Robinson, Dr. LeeAnne Sera and assistant coach Fred Williams and graduate assistant coach Kathy (Hammond) Cotton.
There will be a halftime presentation to honor the former Women of Troy. There will also be a special pregame Tip-Off Club luncheon in the Forum Club where fans will have an opportunity to meet the former USC stars. For special courtside and premier seating packages that include a 20th anniversary memento, or for information on the pregame event, please call USC assistant athletic director Teresa Verbeck (213) 740-4155.
Individual tickets ($10 Premier, $5 Reserved) for the game are available by calling (213) 740-GO SC. Group tickets ($3 each, minimum group of 15) are available by calling (213) 821-0782. USC students are admitted free with a Spirit Activity Card.
The start time for the game has been set at 1:30 p.m. PST and it will be televised nationally by FOX Sports Net.
