Bowlby Reaches Quarterfinals

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Oregon State heavyweight Andy Bowlby reached the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Invitational wrestling tournament Friday before being knocked into the wrestleback bracket. Bowlby, a senior ranked 11th nationally by Amateur Wrestling News, was pinned by fifth-ranked Kevin Hoy of Air Force in 4:56.
The two-day, 50-team tournament concludes Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Complete team scores and wrestleback results from the tournament's first day of action were unavailable.
OSU had two other wrestlers advance in the championship bracket before being bumped into the wrestlebacks. At 149 pounds, freshman Tony Hook won a pair of matches before losing a technical fall to second-ranked Jesse Jantzen of Harvard; at 157 pounds, freshman Jeremy Larson took a first-round victory before being pinned by 10th-ranked Adam Britt of Virginia Military in 3:53.
