Beavers Get Balanced Attack To Beat Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Brian Jackson led a balanced attack with 14 points andOregon State used a huge rebounding advantage to beat Portland 71-64 onSaturday.

The Beavers (3-1) outrebounded the Pilots 42-19 and also used their size tohold a 36-16 edge in free throw attempts.

Jimmie Haywood, Floyd North and Derek Potter all added 11 points for theBeavers.

Portland (3-2), which lost to Oregon earlier in the week, was led by EugeneJeter's 20 points - 15 above his season average.

Led by Jackson, Oregon State went on a 20-5 run after halftime to take a53-34 lead.

The Pilots never really threatened, only narrowing the lead to single digitsin the last minute. Oregon State scored its last 13 points from the line toclinch the win.

Portland's leading scorer, Casey Frandsen, was held scoreless on 0-for-5shooting. After averaging nearly 20 points in his first three games, Frandsenhas been held to a total of six points against Oregon and Oregon State.
