No. 3 Stanford Advances To NCAA Regional After 3-1 Win Over Pacific

Stanford, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Logan Tom tallied a match-high 24 kills to lead the third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Pacific in an NCAA Second Round match tonight at Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 30-26, 29-31, 30-14, 30-21.
The Cardinal advance to the Pacific Regional which will be held, Thursday and Friday, December 12-13 at Maples Pavilion next week. Joining Stanford will be Ohio State, Minnesota and Arizona.
Stanford improves to 28-4 on the year while Pacific ends the season at 19-12.
The Cardinal built a 9-5 lead to open game one after back-to-back Pacific errors. The Tigers closed to within one at 16-17 and tied the game up at 19-all. Stanford regained the lead and went ahead 23-20 on an Ogonna Nnamani kill. UOP closed to within two at 25-27, forcing a Cardinal timeout. Stanford would reach game point at 29-25 on a Pacific hitting error and win the game on a Logan Tom kill at 30-26.
Game two was a back and forth battle with Stanford holding a slight edge at 17-14 after a Sara McGee kill. UOP took the lead at 22-21 on a service ace but the Cardinal took back the lead at 26-25 on a Tiger error. Pacific would reach game point at 29-27 but Stanford would hold off two game points to tie the game at 29-all. However, the Tigers would prevail winning 31-29 on a service ace.
The Cardinal dominated game three building a 19-11 lead on a Nnamani kill. After a Pacific kill to get the game to 12-19, Stanford strung together nine consecutive points to go up 28-12 on a McGee kill. The Cardinal reached game point on a Tom kill and ended the game with a kill by Jennifer Harvey at 30-14.
After Pacific opened game four with a 9-5 lead, Stanford came back to tie it up at nine-all on a Nnamani kill. Stanford went up by two at 14-12 but UOP stormed back to regain the lead at 16-14. A six point Cardinal run gave Stanford the 20-16 edge and the lead for good. An Ashley Ivy service ace put the Cardinal at game and match point leading 29-20. A Nnamani kill gave Stanford the 30-21 win.
Ogonna Nnamani had 21 kills on the night while hitting at a .474 clip. Middle blocker Sara McGee chipped in 17 kills and three blocks with a .520 attack percentage. Lindsey Yamasaki led the team with 15 digs while Anna Robinson tallied 62 assists.
Pacific was led by Jennifer Joines 18 kills and five blocks. Megan Hauschild added a team-high 11 digs. Elaine Goeders had 10 kills and four blocks on the evening.
