Off the Court With Kortney Jamtaas
Dec. 9, 2002
FAVORITES: Athlete - Jackie Joyner Kersee. Movie - Last of the Mohicans. I love it - the action, the love story. I'm a sucker for romance stuff. Magazine to read on a plane - People but I'd rather sleep. TV Show - I'm a channel surfer. I hate commercials. Healthy Food - Grilled chicken. George Foreman is my best friend. He does everything for me. I like mesquite marinade. Forbidden food - Chocolate. In all forms. Class at WSU - History of Soccer taught by Bill Smith. Professional team - 49ers. Musical artist - Jack Johnson and Howie Day. Jack Johnson plays acoustic, mellow. He's a surfer, a movie-maker. He's not real big yet but he just got a song on the radio. I love anything acoustic.
Best sport to be a spectator? Women's volleyball.
Best visit to an international city? Paris. Why? Because it's Paris.
Most Memorable Match - Stanford this year. Beating the number one in the nation.
Best thing about being a libero - You are in all the time and you only have to worry about two things: passing and digging.
Worst thing about being a libero - There isn't a worst thing.
Best way to celebrate a win - With family. We go out to dinner, talk about the win, being happy and thankful.
Fantasy job - If I knew...probably something involving athletics.
Who is number three auto dial on cell phone (after Mom and Dad) - Melissa Boyle (former Cougar volleyball player who graduated in May 2002 and is currently working for the Seattle Bowl.)
If I wasn't playing college volleyball I would be - Ha, ha, ha. I'd be a regular student. I probably would have gone through Rush because my whole family has been in the sorority system. I probably would have stayed in California. You know, in-state tuition.
Best thing about Washington State (Pullman) - The community support. It's like one big family and I love my family.
If I could bring one thing from my hometown, it would be - The beach would be fun.
Other than Bohler Gym, best place to play in Pac-10 - I like playing the Huskies because we get lots of Cougars fans and we usually beat them over there.
Would you rather vacation in the snow or by the surf? Snow.
Joke teller or listener? Listener. We don't have too many joke tellers. Alison Billingsley has the most amazing side comments ever which are kind of like jokes. She is probably the undercover funniest one. And Zanda.
Conditioning drill you dislike the most - Coach on one. Editor's note: this now makes Coach on one the unanimous choice among the Cougar senior players.
Advice you would give a young volleyball player - Have fun. Don't get too frustrated and always know you can get better.
