WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
A Pac-10 record eight teams were selected to participate in the 2002 NCAA Tournament in quest of the Conference's 10th NCAA title in 22 years of the Tournament ... For the fourth time in Pac-10 history, four Pac-10 teams have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The other three times proved favorable for defending national champion STANFORD as it won the national title those three previous times (1994, 1997, 2001) ... Six teams have reached the 20-win mark. The only other time that occurred was in 1993. ARIZONA can make that a Conference-best seven teams with 20 wins should it get by Minnesota in its next match ... The Pac-10 holds an impressive 102-23 record (.816) this season against non-conference competition.

ODDS & ENDS ... The Pac-10 did not have a losing record against any conference this season, compiling a 102-23 (.816) record in non-league play. Only four conferences were equal to the Pac-10's challenge this year - Atlantic Coast (2-2), Big East (1-1), Big Ten (2-2) and Southeastern (1-1) ... The league's best record against non-league foes since 1992 when the Pac-10 posted a mark of 99-19 (.839) ... The four Pac-10 teams remaining in the Tournament were a combined 8-3 against the remaining 12 non-conference teams in the Tournament (USC 4-1, Stanford 4-0, Arizona 0-2) ... The Pac-10 has fared well on neutral courts this season, posting a 48-3 (.941) record.
ARIZONA - Seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, 18th overall. The Cats own a 21-17 (.553) record in the NCAA Tournament and are 17-8 (.680) under coach Dave Rubio ... The Wildcats advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the fourth consecutive year ... Senior Lisa Rutledge is inching closer to joining the 1,000 kills/1,000 digs club, she has already posted 1,452 kills (3rd on UA's career kills list), and she currently has 995 digs (7th on UA's career digs list) ... Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Kim Glass set a UA freshman single-season mark with 517 kills. She needs four kills to set the Arizona single-season mark, passing Terry Lauchner (520 in 1988) ... With two wins last week, Arizona is 9-0 at home in NCAA Tournament play.
ARIZONA STATE - The Sun Devils made their 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament ... Junior Juliana Escobar earned All-Pac-10 honors. She's the 12th Sun Devil to earn all-league honors and the second since 1996 ... Junior Cheryl Anglin has now led the Sun Devils in assists in 83 of her 84 career matches ... She is second in ASU all-time history and first among active Pac-10 setters with 3,560 assists ... ASU's 30 all-time Pac-10 All-Academic selections since 1986 are the most in the Conference ... Senior middle blocker Julia Leddy set the Arizona State career mark in hitting percentage (.342). Her .367 attack percentage this season is a single-season school best.
CALIFORNIA - The Golden Bears made their 6th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 1989 ... All-Pac-10 sophomore Mia Jerkov finished the season with 578 kills, tops on Cal's single-season kill list ... The Bears defeated six opponents ranked in AVCA Top 25 this season ... Cal was also 7-4 in five-game matches this year and it's 20-12 record is the best since going 22-20 in 1983.
OREGON- Senior Sydney Chute tallied 2,150 assists during her Oregon career, ... Junior Lindsay Murphy has been a solid defender for the Ducks at the libero. She has posted 10 or more digs in 16 of Oregon's matches this season, and she is 355 digs away from reaching the top 5 on Oregon's all-time career digs list. ... Freshman outside hitter Dariam Acevedo is the fifth Oregon player to earn Pac-10 All-Freshman honors and the first since 1991 ... The Ducks were 1-1 against non-Pac-10 teams in the NCAA Tournament, with the win coming over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
OREGON STATE - Senior libero Nikki Neuburger, became the 10th Beaver to have 1,000 career digs. She finished her career with 1,036 digs ... Senior Michele Solomon posted 398 career blocks during her career, placing seventh on OSU's all-time career block chart, her 334 block assists rank fifth on the OSU all-time block assists chart ... Junior setter Laura Collins earned Pac-10 honorable mention after posting 1,237 assists this season. It was the ninth best single-season total in OSU history. Her 2,602 career assists rank fourth all-time at OSU .
STANFORD - 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Stanford is one of four teams to appear in all 22 NCAA Tournaments ... Stanford has a 65-17 (.793) postseason record with five NCAA championships ... Stanford is 30-2 (.938) against non-conference competition the last two seasons. That includes a 16-2 (.889) mark against teams ranked in the top 25 ... With 1,882 kills, senior outside hitter Logan Tom needs 28 kills to move into third on the Pac-10's career kills list. That would also move her past former Cardinal Kristin Klein, who compiled 1,909 kills from 1988-91, for the top spot on Stanford's career list.
UCLA - UCLA made its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, 21st overall. The Bruins are 55-19 (.743) in NCAA Tournament play with three NCAA titles ... All-Pac-10 sophomore libero Chrissie Zartman finished the year with 535 digs, a UCLA single-season record. It's the highest total in the Pac-10 since Arizona State's Mindy Gowell set the single-season record with 601 digs in 1990 ... Should Zartman maintain her league-leading 4.53 digs per game, she would become the first Bruin to lead the league in that category ... In 17 seasons of league play, the Bruins have never had a losing season ... Senior outside hitter Lauren Fendrick became the second Bruin to earn First Team Academic All-America honors, joining Julie Bremner (1993).
USC - 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 20th overall. USC sports a 35-18 (.660) record in NCAA Tournament play, collecting the NCAA's first championship in 1981 ... The Women of Troy captured their first-ever outright Pac-10 Championship ... This is the first time USC has collected 17 wins in Pac-10 play ... Over the last three years, the Trojans have posted a record of 81-8 (.910) ... With four players (Emily Adams, Keao Burdine, Katie Olsovsky and April Ross) on the All-Pac-10 team, USC joins Stanford and UCLA as the only schools ever to place four players on the All-Conference team. Stanford accomplished the feat in 1996 and 1997, while UCLA did so in 1986, 1990, 1992 and 1999.
WASHINGTON - The Huskies are made their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1997 ... With a 9-9 mark in Pac-10 play, Washington posted its best league mark since 1997, when the Huskies finished in a tie for second at 13-5 ... At 20-11, the Huskies posted their first 20-win season since 1997 ... Senior outside hitter Paige Benjamin established a Washington single-season record with 573 kills this year, passing Angela Bransom's 1996 total of 546 kill ... Benjamin earned Second Team Academic All-America honors.
WASHINGTON STATE - Third consecutive NCAA appearance, ninth overall. Washington State is 8-8 (.500) in NCAA Tournament play ... WSU advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the third time in school history (1996, 1997, 2002) ... The Cougars have posted their eighth 20-win season, seventh under coach Cindy Fredrick and first since 1997 ... At 11-7 in Pac-10 play, WSU also posted its first winning season in league play since 1997 ... WSU finished its home portion of league play at 8-1, its best home record in Pac-10 play since a perfect 9-0 in 1996 ... Senior libero Kortney Jamtaas has posted a WSU single-season record with 443 digs this year ... During her career, All-Pac-10 outside hitter LaToya Harris has posted 1,432 kills, 1,165 digs and 141 service aces - those numbers rank third, second and first on WSU's respective career lists.
