Women's Basketball to Hold Toy Drive Monday Night vs. Denver

Dec. 9, 2002

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's basketball team will hold a toy drive at its game vs. Denver on Monday, Dec. 9 at Wells Fargo Arena.

Fans will receive free admission to the game with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Toys collected will be donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program.

This holiday season more than 55,000 families have registered for assistance with the Salvation Army. The marked increase of families in need of assistance this year is due, in part, to the loss of 20,000 jobs in the state of Arizona in 2002, most of them in manufacturing. Hardest hit was Maricopa County where 16,800 jobs were lost.

The toy donated at ASU's game will go to the Salvation Army's Christmas Angel Tree Program. This program provides new clothes and toys to children throughout the Valley who would normally wake up on Christmas morning with little or nothing under the tree (if they have a tree at all).

Fans can bring their toys to the East or West Entrance of Wells Fargo Arena to redeem for free admission to the game. Doors open at 5 p.m., and tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be televised locally on AZ-TV.

Please join the Sun Devil women's basketball team in their efforts to help needy families this holiday season. For more information, call the women's basketball office at (480) 965-6086.
