Women's Basketball Player Suspended for Rest of the Year

Dec. 9, 2002

EUGENE, Ore. - Second-year University of Oregon women's basketball coach Bev Smith suspended senior guard Shaquala Williams for the remainder of the season Monday.

Smith released the following statement: 'It is after considerable thought, reflection and with regret that in the best interests of both Shaquala Williams and the University of Oregon women's basketball program, she will not be reinstated to the team. The suspension is definite.'

Smith indefinitely suspended Williams last Wednesday for disciplinary reasons.

A four-year starter and two-time All-American, Williams has averaged 10.9 points, 1.0 assists and 0.8 rebounds per game this season for the Ducks. She was selected the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2000.
