Dec. 10, 2002

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona men's tennis doubles team of Whi Kim and Paul Warkentin is ranked No. 15 in the Omni Hotel Tennis Regional Rankings, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Kim is also ranked No. 15 individually.

Kim, a junior from Pueblo, Colo., began the fall with a national preseason ranking of No. 62 and finished the fall season with a 4-7 singles record. During the ITA All-American, he advanced to the main draw by winning his two qualifying matches, including a victory over Pete Stroer of Texas, who is also ranked in the Fall Regional Rankings.

The duo of Kim and Warkentin earned the region's No. 15 ranking after the finish of the fall season. The two players individually occupy the No. 1 and 2 singles positions respectively on the team. They will compete together for the first time in the spring.

'Whi Kim and Paul Warkentin will be a pair that can compete with any No. 1 doubles team in the Pac-10,' assistant coach Bob Helmig said.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 12:00 p.m. when they will play host to Santa Clara at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in the opening home match of the spring season.
