BOULDER - Junior center Tera Bjorklund captured Colorado's athlete of the week award for her performance in leading the Buffs to a 3-0 record last week, including a 66-47 victory over Cal in the championship game of the Oakland Tribune Classic on Sunday.
Bjorklund registered her second double double of the season in the win over the Golden Bears as she scored 18 points and grabbed 11 boards in the effort. The double double is the sixth of her career and puts her in 15th place on the all-time chart.
Bjorklund's performance, along with a 14-point, eight assist effort in the tournament's opening round earned her a spot on the all-tournament team along will fellow Buff Sabrina Scott, who was the tournament's MVP.
The Buffs also topped Wyoming on Wednesday night as Bjorklund scored 23 in the winning effort over the Cowgirls.
Bjorklund is a junior in CU's College of Arts and Sciences where she is studying communications. She hails from St. Peter, Minn., where she spent her entire life living on a farm before coming to Boulder.
Bjorklund and her teammates now turn their attention to instate rivals Colorado State as the Rams will travel to Boulder to battle the Buffs with tip-off set for 7 p.m. Thursday night.
Colorado's other nominee for this week's award was David Harrison (men's basketball).
MEN'S BASKETBALL: David Harrison, Sophomore, Nashville, Tenn. Sophomore David Harrison continued his leadership of the men's basketball team as the Buffs went 1-1 on the week. Harrison averaged 13.5 points and 12 rebounds as the Buffs fell at home to Georgia before capturing a victory over UMKC on the road. Harrison had a career-high 18 rebounds in the loss to Georgia - a game in which he also notched his seventh career double double.
