McDonald, Parker, Suggs Named Sporting News All Pac-10
Dec. 12, 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Sporting News has released their annual all-conference teams and Arizona State nabbed three spots on the Pac-10 first team. Wide receiver Shaun McDonald, punter Tim Parker and defensive end Terrell Suggs, all juniors, each earned honors. Suggs was also named the Sporting News Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
McDonald finished the year with 76 catches for 1,291 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was tied for the second most TD receptions in the nation and now holds the ASU single-season record for receptions and receiving yards. He had two games this season with over 200 yards receiving and needs only 240 yards to break the Sun Devil career record for receiving yards. McDonald is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver. He was named a CNNSI.com honorable mention All-American already this season.
Parker led the Pac-10 in punting with an average of 43 yards per punt, which is good enough to put him 13th in the nation. His 75-yard punt against USC was the second-longest punt in the conference this year. Parker had 24 of his punts downed inside the 20 and only one blocked on the year.
Suggs has now become the most decorated player in Arizona State history, as this week alone he was honored with the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, as the nation's most outstanding defensive player, and the Rotary Lombardi Award, as the top lineman in the nation. Suggs set the ASU, Pac-10 and NCAA record this year for sacks with 22 and also led the nation in tackles for loss (29.5). Suggs is still a finalist for the Bednarik award, another honor given to the nation's outstanding defensive player, and the Hendricks Award, given to the best defensive end in the nation.
