UCLA Press Conference Quotes

Head coach Tom Fitzgerald:
'Last night's game was very competitive - right down to the wire. I'm happy for the seniors and I do credit each player. We're excited for Sunday's game - it's going to be a great game.'

(on an all PAC-10 final and what it says about soccer):
'These are two special PAC-10 teams. It's expected that West Coast soccer is competitive and important. We'll have to close the airports to East Coast coaches who look to recruit West Coast players.'

(on Stanford):
'I expect the same kind of game as the previous two meetings this season. Stanford is very dangerous on set pieces and crossing balls. It will be difficult to match-up with them due to size, but our athleticism will make up for that. The game may come down to a mental mistake, a defensive breakdown, but we need to be very sharp. Our communication has improved - we need to get our responsibilities done.'

'We're going to come out the way that got us here. Take the game to them and let the chips fall as they will.'

'They say third time is a charm - we'd like to view it as third time a trophy.'

Matt Taylor
(on the play in the Pac-10)
'It feels like we've never gotten as much respect as we should. I think this year it is starting to change with two Pac-10 teams in the finals.'

(on playing against Stanford)
'Every time we have played them it's been a one goal game, I believe. It always seems to come down right to the end.'

Jimmy Frazelle
(on the play in the Pac-10)
'I think it proves how hard the Pac-10 is. I think it proves to the nation that West Coast soccer is very strong.'

(on confidence from beating Stanford twice this year)
'Yes, I think we have confidence from our two wins against them, but it's going to be tough. We are playing against a lot of friends. It's going to be a great game.'

Zach Wells
(playing against Stanford)
'It will be a lot different than the Pac-10 games earlier in the year. The pace of the game in the College Cup is a lot faster than regular season play. I think our rival against Stanford has really grown.'
