Fresh off the NCAA College Cup Championship, senior defender and Bruin team co-captain Scot Thompson has been selected to the U.S. Under-23 National Team roster for a pair of friendlies against Canada on Thursday and Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Thompson, who was selected to the College Cup All-Tournament Team, joins former Bruins DJ Countess, Nelson Akwari and Alex Yi on the squad.

In other U.S. Soccer news, distinguished UCLA alums Brand Friedel and Cobi Jones have been nominated for U.S. Soccer's Chevy Male Athlete of the Year Award, which will be voted on by fans, media and U.S. Soccer representatives. Online votes by fans will be equivalent to 50 percent of the vote. UCLA women's soccer players Jill Oakes and Nandi Pryce are finalists for the Young Female Athlete of the Year Award.

Friedel is also a finalist for Best Game Performance by a Player for his play against Korea in the World Cup. Friedel stopped a penalty kick, made countless one-on-one stops and posted a total of seven saves in the match.

Voting for these awards can be done at the U.S. Soccer website.
