Dec. 21, 2002
SEATTLE - Washington's Alex Vlaski and Matt Hanlin have been tabbed the top two singles players in the Western Region according to the Men's Tennis Fall Regional Rankings released by the ITA on Dec. 10.
Vlaski, a sophomore, and Hanlin, a senior, both advanced to the singles final of the ITA Northern California Regional Championships in Oct., but Hanlin was crowned the regional champion after Vlaski withdrew from the competition.
The pair went on to compete in the National Indoor Championships with Hanlin advancing to the second round and Vlaski advancing to the quarterfinals. Vlaski also came one win away from advancing to the ITA All-American Championship singles final in early Oct., falling in the semifinal to the No. 7 seed.
Vlaski and senior Ari Strasberg find themselves as the No. 6 doubles team in the Western Region according to the fall regional rankings.
The Huskies are anxious to get the spring season underway, hosting New Mexico Friday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. and Portland, Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on the UW campus.
