COUGARS ON TELEVISION: Washington State will make11 appearances on television during its 27-game regular season, including four national and seven regional broadcasts...FOX Sports Net will televise the games vs. UCLA (Jan. 4), at Arizona (Jan. 9), at Stanford (Feb. 15) and at USC (March 8)...FOX Sports Net Northwest will televise games vs. California (Jan. 18), at Washington (Jan. 31), vs. Arizona (Feb. 8), vs. Oregon State (Feb. 22) and vs. Washington (March 1)...FOX Sports Net Arizona will televise the game at Arizona State (Jan. 11)...the Oregon Sports Network will televise the game at Oregon (Jan. 25).
USC PREVIEW: The Trojans are 4-3 and winless in two road contests this season...four players average double figure scoring, led by Desmon Farmer's 13.9 points per outing...
SERIES WITH THE TROJANS: USC leads the all-time series 60-32 and has won seven straight...the last Cougars' victory was 95-86 in Pullman, Jan. 30, 1999...last season, the Trojans won 78-63 (Dec. 29) in Pullman and 85-64 (Jan. 4) at the Forum in Inglewood.
UCLA PREVIEW: The Bruins are 3-5 (pending their Jan. 2 game at Washington)...three players average double-figure scoring, led by Dijon Thompson's 17 points per game...the last time UCLA entered a game against Washington State with a losing record was Jan. 28, 1988 when the Bruins were 7-10...the Bruins won that contest 88-63 at Pauley Pavilion.
SERIES WITH THE BRUINS: UCLA leads the all-time series 82-12 and has won 19 straight...the streak is the second longest current streak in the Pac-10 by one school over another (Arizona has won 34 straight over WSU)...the last Cougars' win over the Bruins was 67-56, Feb. 6, 1993 in Pulllman...last season, No. 19 UCLA won 79-74 (Dec. 22) in Pullman and No. 14 UCLA won 81-69 (Jan. 6) in Los Angeles.
OPENING PAC-10 WITH THE LOS ANGELES SCHOOLS: This season marks the 10th time, and third consecutive season, since the first Pacific-10 basketball season in 1978-79 Washington State has opened conference play with the Los Angeles schools...during the previous nine seasons, the Cougars are 4-14 in such games...WSU were swept by the Trojans and Bruins to begin Pac-10 play in 1980-81, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1999-2000, 2000-01 and 2001-02...WSU swept No. 17 UCLA (81-73) and USC (70-60), Dec. 19-20, 1987...the Cougars knocked off No. 16 UCLA 57-51 in three overtimes Jan. 2, 1982 and defeated USC 68-67, Nov. 30, 1990 in Pac-10 openers.
PAC-10 OPENERS: WSU is 9-15 in Pac-10 openers and has lost seven of its last eight...the lone win during that span was 72-71 over Washington at the Spokane Arena, Jan. 3, 1999...including the win over the Huskies, the Cougars are 9-5 in home games to open Pac-10 play.
CLOSE GAMES TURNAROUND: Washington State is 4-3 this season in games decided by eight points or less...last season, the Cougars were 2-6 in games decided by eight points or less.
MOORE CHASING HISTORY: Junior Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.) needs just 72 points for 1,000, 28 assists for 300 and 13 steals for 125 in his career...if he reaches all three milestones, he will become the third player in WSU history to accomplish the feat...Keith Morrison (1983-86) and Bennie Seltzer (1990-93) are the other two...his season-high eight assists against Fresno State (Dec. 23) moved him into seventh on the WSU all-time list.
GONZAGA HAD MOORE THAN IT COULD HANDLE: In loss against the Bulldogs, Moore poured in 42 points, including 17 in the final three and a half minutes of regulation and 10 more in overtime...the 42 points tied Moore with Steve Puidokas (Jan. 2, 1975 vs. Gonzaga) for fourth on the WSU single-game list...his nine treys tied a Cougar single-game record held by Bennie Seltzer (Feb. 27, 1993 vs. Stanford) and Chris Crosby (Dec. 21, 1998 vs. Idaho).
MOORE NOTES: Moore leads the Pac-10 with 21.1 points per game...his 4.56 assists (third) and 1.89 steals (tied for fifth) are also among the Pac-10 leaders.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Three Cougars players, junior Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.), senior Milton Riley (Gardena, Calif.) and sophomore Shami Gill (Mission, British, Columbia) have recorded double-double this season...Moore has a pair with 28 points/10 rebounds vs. Southern Utah (Nov. 25) and 22 points/career-high 11 rebounds vs. Fresno State (Dec. 23)...Moore has five career double-doubles...Riley scored 12 points and added a career-high 12 rebounds at TCU (Nov. 30) for his second career double-double...Gill scored 11 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds vs. High Point (Dec. 21) for his first career double-double.
RILEY'S PRESENCE: Senior Milton Riley (Gardena, Calif.) tied his career-high (set in the 2002-03 opener vs. San Jose State) with five blocks against Montana...he ranks eighth on the WSU career list with 77...his 2.50 blocks per contest lead the Pac-10 and are tied for 25th nationally...he is on pace to register 60 blocks this season, the most since past Stuart House's 69 during the 1979-80 season...at his current rate, Riley would finish his career with 117 blocks...only Donaldson (1976-79) with 176, Carlos Daniel (1995-98) with 136 and House (1977-80) with 118 tallied more in their WSU careers...he is also ninth in the Pac-10 with 56.5 percent shooting from the field.
DIALING LONG DISTANCE: The Cougars tied single-game team records for three-pointers (18) and three-point attempts (37) in the loss to Gonzaga...both marks were set Dec. 29, 1990 during a 121-82 win over Seattle in Bohler Gym...WSU leads the Pacific-10 with 9.56 three-pointers made per game...at that pace, the Cougars would finish with 258...the 1993-94 squad holds the single-season record with 221...WSU is also on track to shoot 714 three-pointers this season which would shatter the record of 598 set in 1993-94.
GOING DOWNTOWN: Thomas Kelati (Walla Walla) is shooting 54.2 percent (26-for-48) from beyond the arc to rank second in the Pacific-10 and tie for 35th nationally...at his current pace, Kelati would establish a WSU single-season record for three-point percentage...the record is held by Blake Pengelly (1996-97) at 48.6 percent (36-74)...his 2.89 three-pointers made per game are second in the Pac-10...his 26 treys this season have already eclipsed his 18 during his freshman campaign.
KELATI CONTRIBUTIONS: The sophomore guard scored a career-high 19 points in the loss to Gonzaga on the strength of 5-for-8 shooting from three-point range...he has tallied five assists three times to tie his career high...his 1.79 assist-to-turnover ratio (second) and 3.78 assists per game (sixth) are both among Pac-10 leaders.
LYMAN AT THE LINE: Senior Justin Lyman (Missouri City, Texas) has knocked down 24-of-27 foul shots this season (.889) to tie for tops the Pacific-10...his misses came in the opener vs. San Jose State (Nov. 23), at Colorado State (Dec. 14) and vs. Fresno State (Dec. 23).
BENCH SCORING: The Cougars' bench has scored 169 points this season to account for 24.4 percent of WSU offensive production.
GLASS CLEANERS: Five Cougars veterans have set their career high in rebounds this season...junior Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.) tallied his career high with 11 rebounds against Fresno State (Dec. 23)...senior Milton Riley (Gardena, Calif.) recorded his career high at TCU (Nov. 30) with 12...sophomore Shami Gill (Mission, British Columbia) pulled down 13 boards against High Point (Dec. 21)...at Idaho (Dec. 4), seniors Cedrick Hughey (Waldo, Ark.) and Justin Lyman (Missouri City, Texas) grabbed seven and six boards, respectively...Moore's 6.4 rebounds per game (10th) and Gill's 6.2 boards per contest (tied for 13th) are both among the Conference leaders.
LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD: The combined 214 points scored in the Gonzaga game were the most by two teams at Friel Court since No. 12 Arizona won a 114-111 overtime thriller against the Cougars March 2, 1995.
