UA Women's Basketball Player Leaves Program

Jan. 1, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 1) - University of Arizona women's basketball player Candice Allen has left the program for personal reasons, announced head coach Joan Bonvicini on Wednesday.

A 5-10 junior guard from Ontario, Calif., Allen took some time away from the team following the Wildcats' game at Pepperdine on Nov. 25, and she never returned to active status. She scored just 2 points while seeing limited action during the Cats' first two games of the season.

Allen's career averages were 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game. She played in 55 contests as a Wildcat, starting 12.

'Candice and our staff have mutually agreed that she needs to depart the program,' said Bonvicini. 'She has expressed an interest in transferring to another school, and we wish her the best.'

The 20th-ranked Wildcats are 7-3 overall and 1-1 in Pac-10 play after splitting games in the Bay Area last weekend. They will play host to Oregon on Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m.
