Kapono Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior forward Jason Kapono has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for December 30, 2002 - January 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Kapono, from Lakewood, Calif., averaged 29.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in UCLA's wins at Washington State and Washington. In the Bruins' 98-83 win over the Cougars, Kapono turned in the greatest single-game scoring total by a UCLA forward with a career-high 44 points on 14-for-19 shooting, as well as dishing out a career-high-tying six assists. His 44-point outing was also the fifth-best in UCLA history, and tied for 10th on the Pac-10 single-game list (Conference games only). His 9 -for-10 three-point shooting performance was also a school record. Currently, he is third on the Pac-10's career three-point field goal chart with 277 treys. The senior also put up 15 points, two rebounds , five assists , one steal and just one turnover in the Bruins' 77-67 win against the Huskies.
It is the second weekly award for Kapono, the 38th all-time honor for the Bruins.
