Jan. 8, 2003

SEATTLE - Sophomore Jeffrey Day has been reinstated academically and is eligible to play immediately, University of Washington men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar announced Wednesday.

The 6-foot-9 forward missed the last three UW games after being declared ineligible on Dec. 27. The Huskies had a 2-1 record in his absence.

Day accompanied the team Wednesday for a two-game road trip to the state of Arizona. He is available to play beginning with Thursday's Pacific-10 Conference game at Arizona State. The Huskies and Sun Devils meet at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time (6:30 p.m. Mountain Time) in a game that will be televised live on Fox Sports Northwest.

Day averaged 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Huskies during the first eight games of the 2002-03 season. He started six times, including the season opener on Nov. 24 against Montana State when he registered career highs with 10 points and nine rebounds.

A product of Seattle Prep High School, Day averaged 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds as a UW freshman in 2001-02. He ranked second on the team last season with 30 blocked shots.

Washington has a 6-5 record and is 1-1 in Pac-10 play. The Huskies visit second-ranked Arizona on Saturday for a game that will be televised live on Fox Sports Northwest at 4 p.m. Pacific Time.
