Cal Defeated By Oregon State, 68-37

CORVALLIS, OR - Oregon State University's women's basketball team rolled to a 68-37 victory against University of California in front of 1,052 fans in Gill Coliseum on Saturday night.The win broke a four-game losing streak for the Beavers, who upped their record to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in Pacific-10 Conference play. Cal falls to 5-8 on the year and 1-3 in conference action.
Oregon State used a 16-0 run to open the second half and put the game out of reach. The Golden Bears missed their first 12 shots of the frame and were held scoreless until the 11:49 mark when LaTasha O'Keith hit a free throw, making the score 45-26.
OSU used a 12-0 run over the final 4:30 to close out the contest. Everything was falling for the Beavers on the night as Leilani Estavan buried a shot with her back to the basket from the free throw line in an attempt to beat the shot clock.
The Beavers held Cal to just four field goals (4-for-28) in the half while connecting on 16-of-30 shots for a season-high 53-percent.
OSU finished the game shooting a season-best 52-percent from the floor while Cal was a meager 22-percent for the game.'Our team played very, very hard and you have to give all the credit to the players because they were very scrappy,' said OSU head coach Judy Spoelstra. 'I thought Brina Chaney did a great job battling - that was a war zone in there.'
Ten different Oregon State players scored on the night, led by Brina Chaney's seventh career double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. Hollye Chapman finished with 12 points and a season-high three blocked shots, while Estavan added 12 points, six rebounds and a season-high nine assists. Senior Michelle Smith added a season-best six points on 3-of-4 shooting.California had 11 players score in the game, with Kristin Iwanaga's six points and five rebounds leading the way.
Oregon State held a 29-25 lead at the half before outscoring Cal 39-12 over the final 20 minutes.
