Wrestling Gets Back to Business in Pac-10
Jan. 16, 2003
The Oregon wrestling team returns home to McArthur Court for a doubleheader Friday against Stanford and UC Davis. The Stanford match will take place at 3 p.m., while the UC Davis match will begin at 7 p.m.
The Ducks (3-4, 2-0) look to push their Pac-10 record to 4-0 following a 2-2 outing at the Oregon Classic one week ago. At the Oregon Classic, the Ducks defeated Pac-10 foe Cal State Fullerton as well as Pacific University, but fell to No. 17 Wisconsin and No. 12 Central Michigan.
Sophomore Shane Webster continued his impressive wrestling, winning all four of his matches. He now has a 16-2 record on the season, with both rankings coming against ranked opponents. Webster remained at No. 8 in Intermat's rankings at 174.
Head coach Chuck Kearney announced earlier this week that senior Eric Webb will no longer compete in his career at Oregon. Webb suffered his fourth concussion in two years earlier this season, and decided to not risk further injury. Neil Phillips, a redshirt freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., has filled in for Webb since the injury.
