UW's Erin Boisclair advances to second round of Pac-10 Indoor Championships

SEATTLE - Washington's Erin Boisclair advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Indoor Championships Friday by defeating Oregon's Julie Merle, 6-2, 6-1 at UW's Nordstrom Tennis Center. Boisclair will face Cal's Nicole Havlicek in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In Flight I singles, Husky All-American Claire Carter defeated Nora Gaal of Washington State, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals, where she will face USC's Luana Magnani.
Two other Huskies - Dea Sumantri and Erin Hoe - also emerged victorious, Sumantri downing second-seeded Debbie Larocque of Arizona, 6-2, 6-2, and Hoe defeating fourth-seeded Emilie Scribot, also of Arizona, in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-0). Sumantri will face UCLA's Sarah Gregg in the quarterfinals, while Hoe will match up against Oregon's Jamie Marshall.
The day was not all good for Washington, as two Huskies - seniors Darija Klaic and Colleen Gray - were defeated in their matches. Klaic fell, 6-4, 6-4 to Arizona's Emilie Scribot, while Gray failed in an upset bid against Mauren Diaz of USC (4-6, 6-3, 6-0).
Pac-10 Indoor play resumes Sat., Jan. 18, in the Nordstrom Tennis Center, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
