Wrestling Defeats Stanford, 32-6, in First of Two Friday Matches

EUGENE - The Oregon wrestling team remained undefeated in Pac-10 action, defeating Stanford, 32-6, at McArthur Court. The Ducks (4-4, 3-0) used a fall by Casey Hunt and major decisions by Shane Webster and Tony Overstake to defeat the Cardinal.

The meet began at 157, with junior Branson Phillips against Stanford's No. 17-ranked Matt Gentry. Gentry picked up an early takedown in the first period and held control for most of the match. Gentry had a flurry of takedowns in the final minute to win the match, 10-4, giving Stanford a 3-0 lead.

At 165, Luke Larwin picked up a win against Garrett Johnston. After a scoreless first period, Larwin escaped easily to begin the second period and scored a takedown. In the third period, Larwin scored a late takedown to win the match, 6-2, tying the team score at three.

No. 8-ranked Webster dominated freshman Ryan Hagen from the start of the match, scoring five takedowns in the first period alone. Webster cruised to a major decision, 20-8, to give the Ducks a 7-3 lead.

Freshman Tony Rolen and Harold Penson wrestled to a scoreless first period at 184. A late takedown and near fall for Rolen clinched the victory, 5-2, to give the Ducks a 10-3 lead.

Elias Soto, filling in for junior Jake Leair at 197, defeated Larry Ozawara, 10-5. Soto remained the aggressor throughout the match, scoring a third period takedown and near fall to seal the victory and give Oregon a commanding lead, 13-3.

At heavyweight, Neil Phillips scored a first period takedown and did not allow Shawn Ritzenthaler a chance to retaliate to win the match, 3-0.

Martin Mitchell lost a tough overtime match to Nathan Peterson, 10-5, at 125 to give Stanford its second win of the meet. At 133, Jason Harless of Oregon won by forfeit.

Hunt pinned Brendon Fox at 141, giving the Ducks a 28-6 lead. Hunt took down Fox with about a minute remaining in the first period and then pulled off the pin at the 2:23 mark to finish off the match.

Overstake finished off the meet with a major decision, 13-4, against Scott Polley at 149. The four-point decision gave the Ducks the team victory, 32-6.
