Arizona Women's Tennis Competes in Day One of Pac-10 Indoor Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Arizona women's tennis team completed the first day of singles competition at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships at the Nordstrom Center on the University of Washington campus.
Competing for the Wildcats in the first round of top-flight singles, graduate student Emilie Scribot defeated Washington's Darija Klaic, 6-4, 6-4. Also in top-flight singles, sophomore Maja Mlakar fell in the first round to Oregon's Daria Panova, 6-4,6-1.
In the second flight of first-round singles action, junior Debbie Larocque was defeated by Dea Sumantri of Washington, 6-2, 6-2. Larocque advances to the second flight of the consolation bracket, where she will face Oregon's Davina Mendiburu in the quarterfinals.
In third-flight singles play, sophomore Kelly Perry fell in the first round to Oregon's Jamie Marshall, 6-4, 6-1. Perry advances to the third flight of the consolation bracket, where she will face California's Jody Scheldt in the quarterfinals.
In fourth-flight singles action, freshman Kelly Duncan was defeated in the first round by California's Carla Arguelles, 6-1, 6-2.
The Wildcat women's tennis team will continue play Saturday, when doubles action begins and all flights of singles continue quarterfinal and semifinal competition. In the top flight of doubles play, Arizona's No. 25 duo of Mlakar and Larocque will compete in the first round, as well as the team of Hollands and Perry. In the second flight of doubles action, Duncan and freshman Kristy Randono will pair up to compete for the Wildcats.
