Story Tweedie-Yates Wins Consolation Final At Pac-10 Indoor Championships

Seattle, Wash. - The Stanford women's tennis team competed in the final day of the 2003 Pac-10 Indoor Championships at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash on Sunday. Cardinal sophomore Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, WA) highlighted the day, winning the consolation final of the singles second flight with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Orsi Sallai of Washington State.
Junior Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) advanced to the first singles flight finals with a hard-fought three-set match win over Emilie Scribot of Arizona. Barnikow was then beaten by Oregon's Daria Panova in the finals 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Kara Guzman (Burr Ridge, IL) was defeated by Washington's Erin Hoe in the third singles flight semifinals, 6-2, 6-0.
In second flight doubles action, Guzman and Jessica Leck (Los Angeles, CA) fell to Oregon's Anna Leksinka and Jaime Marshall 8-2 in the first round. Following a first round bye, Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) and Tweedie-Yates recorded an 8-4 win over Erin Boisclair and Erin Hoe of Washington in the quarterfinals. USC's Bernadette Bayani and Maureen Diaz then advanced to the finals due to Anderson and Tweedie-Yates' default.
The Cardinal will open up their 2003 dual season campaign on Feb. 1 against Fresno State. Match time is set for 12 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Family Stadium.
