Engel And Burkett Fall In Pac-10 Women's Tennis Indoor Consolation Finals

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior Adria Engel and sophomore Joslynn Burkett each reached their respective consolation singles final, but both players eventual fell in the championship match to end the three-day Pac-10 Women's Tennis Indoor Championship in Seattle, Washington.
Engel dropped her opening match in flight #1 singles, but bounce back to win two matches in the consolation bracket before dropping a two set match to California's Racquel Kops-Jones, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Burkett also fell in her opening singles match of flight #3 only to come back strong in the consolation round before falling in a tough three-set match to California's Jody Scheldt, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
In other singles matches, ASU junior Dora Krstulovic posted an excellent win in her opening round match of flight #1, upsetting the nation's third-ranked player, Jewel Peterson of USC, 7-5, 7-6 (4). Krstulovic would then fall in the quarterfinals to Stanford's Lauren Barnikow, 7-6, 6-0. Senior Megan Yeats also won her opening round match in flight #4 with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win over Ester Bak of Oregon. However, Yeats would then have to withdraw in her quarterfinal match against Washington's Andrea Coulter. Junior Cindy Sureephong, senior Mhairi Brown and sophomore Lauren Colalillo each fell in their opening round matches as did freshman Paulie Fabian.
In doubles action, the duo of Engel/Krstulovic won their opening round match with an 8-2 win over Washington's Gaal/Fodor, but dropped their quarterfinal match to UCLA's Carleton/Gordon, 8-3. ASU's other doubles teams of Brown/Sureephong and Burkett/Colalillo both fell in their opening matches.
Up next, The Sun Devils head across country to Williamsburg, Virginia to open the dual season against Mississippi on Saturday and William & Mary on Sunday.
