Softball Picked To Finish Third In Pac-10

SEATTLE. - Washington has been predicted to finish third in the Pac-10 by conference coaches as announced in the 2003 preseason poll. UCLA, who won the 2002 conference title, was picked to finish first with 46 points, followed by World Series Runner-up Arizona with 44 points.

The Huskies received 33 points to finish third, followed by California and Stanford (30), Arizona State (20), Oregon State (14) and Oregon (seven).

Last season, Washington (46-18) finished third in the Pac-10 with a 13-8 record to advance to its ninth NCAA Regional Tournament. The Huskies have finished no lower than third in the league since 1996 and were crowned Pac-10 Champions in 1996 and 2000.

The Huskies return eight letterwinners for the 2003 campaign, including All-Americans Tia Bollinger (pitcher), Jaime Clark (shortstop) and Kristen Rivera (catcher). Washington opens the 2003 season against Santa Clara on February 6 as it competes in the Hawai'i Chevron Paradise Classic in Honolulu.
