Men's Tennis Comes Home for Two Weekend Matches
Jan. 24, 2003
EUGENE - The No. 73-ranked Oregon men's tennis team begins its regular season play this weekend with a pair of matches at the Student Tennis Center. Oregon will play Idaho on Saturday at noon, then will take on No. 59 New Mexico on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Idaho is not ranked and plays its first match Friday against Portland State. New Mexico features two of the top 75 singles players in the nation, with No. 60 Bart Scott and No. 67 Divan Coetzee. Brent Salazar and Ryan Stotland are also ranked No. 59 in doubles play.
Manuel Kost, ranked No. 64 in singles, will most likely play for the first time this calendar year. Kost sat out the Ducks' matches while in Hawaii with a strained muscle.
Senior Oded Teig is only five singles victories away from becoming the all-time Oregon leader. With six of Oregon's first seven matches at home, chances are good that Teig's accomplishment will take place at the Student Tennis Center.
Livescoring will be available for both matches this weekend at http://goducks.ocsn.com/sports/m-tennis/sched/ore-m-tennis-sched.html. Those interested should click on the livescoring link that appears on the schedule next to the match.
The team will next play on the road against BYU and New Mexico State, Feb. 1 and Feb. 2. Both of those matches will take place in Provo, Utah.
