No. 5 Stanford Edges Bruins, 80-78

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nicole Powell scored 23 points and made the winningbasket with 2.3 seconds left, as fifth-ranked Stanford defeated UCLA, 80-78Friday night for its 10th straight win.

After Powell's six-footer, UCLA was unable to get off another shot beforetime expired.

UCLA's Michelle Greco finished with 28 points, 16 in the first half. NikkiBlue finished with 16, all in the second half for the Bruins (11-6, 6-2Pac-10), who have lost six straight to the Cardinal (15-1, 7-0).

A basket by Chelsea Trotter completed a 10-0 run and put Stanford up 62-58with 8:04 left. Susan King had a 3-pointer and a three-point play during therun.

Kelley Suminski's 3-point basket with 3:41 remaining gave Stanford itsbiggest lead of the half, 73-68.

UCLA cut the lead to one 24 seconds later after back-to-back baskets byJamila Veasley and Blue.

Greco made two free throws with 27.3 seconds left to tie the score at 78.

Trotter scored 17 for Stanford, Sebnem Kimyacioglu had 15 points andSuminski finished with 12.
