Jan. 25, 2003

EUGENE - The Oregon men's tennis team, ranked No. 73 nationally, defeated the Idaho Vandals, 7-0, in its first official dual match of the season. The Ducks (1-0) swept the three doubles matches and did the same in the six singles matches to pick up the win.

The match was never in doubt, as the Ducks raced to solid leads in all three doubles matches. Thomas Bieri and Chris King won first at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, followed closely by Jason Menke and Arron Spencer at No. 2, 8-2. Sven Swinnen and Oded Teig completed the doubles sweep, 8-4, at the No. 1 position.

In singles play, Teig came back from a 3-0 deficit in the first set at the No. 1 spot to win, 6-4, 6-2. The match at No. 1 turned out to be the closest match of singles action, as the Ducks did not lose a set. Swinnen, Bieri and Menke lost a combined five games in their three matches.

The Ducks host New Mexico Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center. Livescoring will be available for the match at
