Jan. 26, 2003
STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oregon wrestling team could not hold off the No. 1 Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road and eventually lost, 33-5. Oregon (5-6, 4-0) had two individual match winners, Martin Mitchell at 125 and No. 7-ranked Shane Webster at 174.
'Even though they were two losses [Oklahoma and Oklahoma State], we feel like we started to get the momentum towards the conference and national tournaments,' head coach Chuck Kearney said. 'We didn't wrestle timid and we didn't wrestle scared.'
Oklahoma State won the first five matches of the afternoon before Webster broke the streak at 174. Webster never trailed in his match against Chad Reid and won by decision, 7-3.
In one of Oregon's five losses at 141, senior Casey Hunt was dominating his opponent, No. 3 Zack Esposito. Hunt led 9-2 following one period, but Esposito scored a fall at the 3:36 mark.
