WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- USC junior guard Rometra Craig has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 20-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Craig, from Portola Valley, Calif., led the Women of Troy to wins against No. 6 Stanford and California for their first Pac-10 sweep of the season. The victory over Stanford snapped the Cardinal's 28-game Pacific-10 Conference winning streak. On the weekend, Craig averaged 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists. She shot a combined 41.4 percent from the field.
In an 83-62 win over California (Jan. 24), Craig notched 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
In the 75-72 upset of Stanford (Jan. 26), Craig scored nine of her 19 points in the final six minutes and gave USC the lead for good on a three-point basket with 5:56 to play. She added five rebounds and five assists as the Women of Troy won their season-high third straight game. It marked USC's first win over Stanford in Los Angeles since 1994 and its second win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Craig, who transferred to USC from Duke University and became eligible in December. It is the 29th all-time selection for the Women of Troy.
