Men's Golf to Host 2003 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team will open its 2003 spring season by hosting the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Feb. 3-4, at Arizona National Country Club at Sabino Springs. Thirteen of the 16 teams in the field participated in last year's NCAA Regional or national championship.
One of the finest college golf events in the nation, the 2003 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Arizona National Country Club at Sabino Springs, a par 71, 6,776-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, Feb. 3 with play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST. The second round will get underway at approximately 1 p.m. The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Five of the teams in the field were currently ranked in the final fall Precept/GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll. The following teams are scheduled to compete: Arizona junior varsity, Arizona State, California, California-Irvine, Fresno State, Houston, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Oregon, Pepperdine, Texas-El Paso, Tulsa, UCLA, USC, Wake Forest, and host Arizona.
The Wildcats, currently ranked eighth in the Precept/GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll, posted three top-five finishes as a team in five fall events. UA has been ranked in the top 20 nationally in each poll released during the 2002-03 campaign.
