Softball Tabbed No. 1 in NFCA Pre-Season Poll

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released the 2003 pre-season version of the NFCA/USA Today Coaches Poll on Wednesday, and UCLA opens the season in the poll's top spot.
The Bruins earned 18 of a possible 22 first place votes. Seven of the eight Pac-10 teams that sponsor the sport of softball are represented, including No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 California, No. 6 Washington, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 14 Stanford and No. 23 Oregon State.
UCLA will play 13 of the remaining 24 ranked teams, as well as 26th-ranked Florida Atlantic, during the upcoming season. UCLA begins its 2003 schedule this Friday, January 31, at Easton Softball Stadium in the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. The tournament field will include No. 10 Cal State Fullerton and No. 22 Alabama. Games begin at 9 am on Friday morning, with the Bruins first pitch against Loyola Marymount scheduled for 1:30 pm.
