Beavers Pick Up Baseball Votes

Jan. 31, 2003

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State picked up votes in the Sports Weekly/ESPN College Baseball Coaches Top 25 preseason poll. The Beavers, who begin their season Feb. 7-9 with a three-game series at California-Riverside, earned 10 points in the poll; that was the equivalent of 43rd place.

'It's great to have our baseball program recognized on a national level like this,' OSU head coach Pat Casey said. 'With the start of the season just a week away, we're excited about the possibilities for this team.'

The poll is selected by 41 Division I coaches from around the nation representing the American Baseball Coaches Association. OSU returns 17 lettermen from a team that finished 31-23 last season, placing sixth in the Pacific-10.

Oregon State will open its 22-game home schedule on March 4 with a non-league game against Portland. This spring at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, the Beavers will also play host to No. 6 Southern California, No. 9 Arizona State, Washington, Washington State, California, Nevada and California-Santa Barbara.
