Softball Defeats Host Southwest Texas State, Improves To 3-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The University of Oregon softball team improved to 3-0 Satruday morning, defeating Southwest Texas 2-1 in front of 400 fans on the second day of the Southwest/Texas Century Tel Classic in San Marcos, Texas. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-1 overall.
Sophomore pitcher Lindsey Kontra pitched four complete innings and picked up the win for the Ducks to improve to 1-0 on the season while freshman Amy Harris picked up her first career save. Harris struck out five batters in three innings pitched, bringing her two-game total to 13 strike outs in 10 innings pitched.
Offensively, senior Amber Hutchison (Lake Oswego) led the way for Oregon, finishing the game 2-for-2. Hutchison scored the Ducks' first run of the game on an RBI single by Lynsey Haij in the bottom of the third inning. Hutchison's run tied the game after Southwest Texas catcher Ryan Stukel hit a home run over the right field fence in the second inning.
Seniors Alyssa Laux and Janell Bergstrom each added a hit and junior Jenn Poore finished the game 1-for-1 and drove in the Ducks' winning run with a shot to left field in the fourth inning. Poore, pinch hitting for freshman Breanne Sabol, scored freshman Beth Boskovich who walked and was advanced on a bunt by Bergstrom.
Southwest Texas had runners at second and third in the top of the fifth inning, but Harris held her own, striking out Southwest Texas' number four batter, Rachel Bonetti.
Oregon faces Houston at 3:00 p.m. in its final game Saturday.
