UCLA Swimming Loses to Cal, 157.5-142.5

Berkeley, CA - In today's Pac-10 match-up between the No. 9 California Golden Bears and No. 12 UCLA Bruins, UCLA lost 157.5-142.5. The Bruins are now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Pac-10 play.
On the day, the Bruins won six events. Freshman Kim Vandenberg kicked things off, winning the 200 Fly in 1:58.62. Vandenberg's win was followed by victories by Sara Platzer in the 50 Free (23.23) and Regan Gosnell on the one-meter springboard (266.325 points). Gosnell completed a sweep of the diving events, also winning the three-meter springboard (308.775). Freshman Liz Keating won the 500 Free in 4:55.87. And, Malin Svahnstrom tied for first with Cal's Staciana Stitts in the 200 IM (2.03.65).
The Bruins will resume Pac-10 competition Saturday, February 15, against cross-town rival USC. The meet will be held at the McDonald's Swim Stadium, located on the USC campus. The Pac-10 Championships will take place Thursday to Saturday, February 27 to March 1, in Federal Way, WA.
